Community College Journal, v83 n4 p30-35 Feb-Mar 2013
For nearly as long as students, teachers, and community members have been adopting social media--more than a decade--community college leaders have sought ways to harness the power of online applications to improve fundraising and advocacy efforts. Dedicated Facebook pages and Twitter feeds were among the most logical starting points--if a college doesn't already reach out to students, faculty, and community members using these tools, it almost certainly should. But a successful commitment to online advocacy and fundraising goes beyond the obvious. The most effective efforts combine the reach of social media with a sustained investment by the college--one that often requires a targeted mix of traditional and emerging outreach efforts. This article offers three examples of comprehensive community college fundraising and advocacy campaigns that met or exceeded their fundraising or outreach goals.
