A Look at "National Geographic United States" and "World Atlases"
Harper, Meghan
School Library Media Activities Monthly, v25 n10 p44-46 Jun 2009
The pairing of print and online reference resources is becoming more prevalent with the bonus for students and educators in the publishers' ability to keep the online information current. The availability of print resources along with companion online resources allows multiple access points that promote both choice and variety. Traditionally, print atlases were replaced as political and geographic borders changed. In the past, a major change in one country would necessitate an update of the entire edition. However, online atlases can reflect up-to-the-minute changes; therefore, an entire print atlas may not need immediate replacement since updated information can be accessed online. This article takes a look at two excellent print atlas resources offered by National Geographic: (1) "National Geographic World Atlas for Young Explorers"; and (2) "National Geographic United States Atlas for Young Explorers." Each print reference comes with a complementary Web site. (Contains 4 figures.)
