Social Software: A Powerful Paradigm for Building Technology for Global Learning
Wooding, Amy; Wooding, Kjell
Childhood Education, v94 n1 p32-39 2018
It is not difficult to imagine a world where internet-connected mobile devices are accessible to everyone. Can these technologies be used to help solve the challenges of global education? This was the challenge posed by the Global Learning XPRIZE--a $15 million grand challenge competition aimed at addressing this global teaching shortfall. In 2015, Amy and Kjell Wooding accepted this challenge by founding Learn Leap Fly, with the belief that there must be a way to create technology that could help address this global teaching shortfall. They wanted to see if they could bring technology to bear on one of the great challenges facing the world today: teaching the world to learn. This article describes how Learn Leap Fly--social software and universal tool for learning--came to fruition and was put to the test at the Mercy and Caring Children's Homes (MCCH) in Kitale, Kenya.
