Competency Based Curriculum Guide. Career Education. Grades 7-8.

Designed as a resource for junior high teachers (7-8), this curriculum activities guide is third in a set of four based on an articulated (K-12) career education competency curriculum model designed to infuse career education into the curriculum on a districtwide basis. Materials for each of the four program components are arranged under the following headings: major objective, curricular objective (competency), area of emphasis, content, suggested learning activity, resources, and assessment strategies. The four components, based on the curriculum model, are (1) Career Planning and Decision Making (individual differences, self-awareness, career development, adaptive skills, career planning), (2) Education, Work, and Leisure Alternatives (work roles, societal expectations, relationship between education and work and leisure time, and job entry), (3) Lifestyle and Personal Satisfaction (meanings of work, job satisfaction, and job specialization), and (4) Occupational Roles (consumer awareness, work roles and responsibilities, and transferable worker traits). Bibliographies are included for each component. The appendix contains a glossary of terms, the career development conceptual model, and the career education program description. (TA)
