Success with High School Allotment: Three High Schools' Rise to Exemplary
Bevers, James Walter
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Stephen F. Austin State University
This study was implemented to investigate how three Texas high school campuses improved their campus accountability ratings using the High School Allotment (HSA) funding. Three high schools were selected based on criteria, including campus size, ethnic breakdown of student population, use of HSA finding, and improvement in the campus accountability ratings over a four year period. A descriptive multi-case framework was developed for the study. Descriptive data were compiled on each campus selected. Each campus was surveyed during campus visits, and interviews with the decision-makers on those campuses provided the data for the study. Major themes among programming, activities, and other methods were identified and analyzed for effectiveness. A cross comparison of the high school campuses was developed. The study found four main areas of emphasis where the study campuses focused their spending of HAS monies, including additional personnel, purchase of technology, programming for college readiness, and professional development. All recommendations for best practices for high school campuses to raise their campus ratings using different programs, activities, or other methods funded through HSA were presented in a narrative format.
