Teacher Perceptions of School Culture and Servant Leadership: A Correlation Study
Shepherd, Melody
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Texas Wesleyan University
The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationship between servant leadership and school culture. School culture has been linked to several school outcomes, such as student behavior, teacher retention, and socio-emotional balance. The following questions guided the current study: 1) Is there a relationship between teacher perceptions of school culture and perspectives of the principal's servant leadership skills? 2) Are there differences between elementary, middle and secondary teacher perceptions of school culture and perspectives of the principal's servant leadership skills? The surveys were distributed via social media and volunteer school district distribution, and 500 responses were received. Descriptive statistics were compiled on the results for all respondents. Data were analyzed by correlation analysis using SPSS. Results of the study demonstrated a statistically significant correlation between the measures of servant leadership and school culture. The findings of this study can help school districts in choosing candidates for school leadership positions, and principals in determining next steps to improve their school's culture.
