Gifted Education: A Resource Guide for Teachers.

Designed for teachers, this resource guide on gifted education discusses the identification of gifted students and different types of educational strategies that teachers can use with gifted students. Topics include: (1) providing gifted students with the most enabling learning environment possible; (2) identifying and defining characteristics of gifted students; (3) developing a student profile to help provide a deeper understanding of an individual's unique interests, styles, and abilities; (4) establishing principles of a differential curriculum for the gifted/talented; (5) developing approaches that can be used to meet the needs of the gifted learner in the regular classroom, such as changes in the content of the curriculum, the processes that engage the students, the products of their studies, and the learning environment; (7) identifying specific content changes that can be used, including acceleration, telescoping, compacting, independent study, tiered assignments, and learning centers; and (8) developing different curricular models for gifted students, including learning through broad based themes, learning through case studies, and learning through problem solving. Throughout the text, additional recommended reading material is provided. Appendices include a list of programming options, a teacher planning guide, forms for individual education plans, and evaluation forms for gifted behaviors and class assessment.
