This publication contains data on State University of New York (SUNY) trends in tuition and other basic student charges for the past 30 years and typical student costs from 1980-81 through 1993-94. A summary section defines fixed charges (tuition, college fees, student activity fees, and other required fees) and discusses variable charges (room and board charges/allowances and other student costs such as books and supplies, transportation, and personal/other items). Part I contains three tables on trends over 30 years in tuition and other charges. These tables compare SUNY with independent institutions, highlight trends by program level, and summarize tuition changes at SUNY institutions, respectively. Part II contains six tables showing trends in student charges and costs from 1980-81 through 1993-94. These treat: (1) tuition and fees and median family income, (2) trends in tuition and fees at SUNY per academic year, (3) range of resident tuition charges at community colleges, (4) trends in distribution of allowances for variable student costs, (5) total undergraduate student costs 10 years apart, and (6) trends in total undergraduate costs and allowances within student budgets.
