A longitudinal evaluation of the utility of a screening battery administered in kindergarten is shown to retain a high utility for predicting current achievement outcomes of the sample at the end of grade six. The use of discriminant functional analysis and statistical decision theory is discussed. (Author/CM)

Investigated the relationship between the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R) and the McCarthy Screening Test (MST) with a sample of 39 children whose mean age was 62.3 months. All of the subtests of the MST, excluding Numerical Memory and Leg Coordination, correlated positively and significantly with the PPVT-R. (Author)

Examined the effectiveness of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (Revised) as a screening instrument for gifted children. Although the PPVT-R may be useful as a screening measure with a general population, it offered little incremental effectiveness as a screening measure with a restricted range of ability. (Author/JAC)
