Special Education: Creating Opportunities, Reaching for Success
Butler, Heather
Kappa Delta Pi Record, v48 n1 p34-35 Fall 2011
Kappa Delta Pi embodies the belief that educators have a responsibility to live their lives in such a way that they serve their students to the best of their ability, giving all that they have to help the students succeed. It is a worthy ideal--one that all teachers should strive to meet. Students with special needs disabilities have been touched by teachers with this mind-set, who have provided the support necessary to help guide their students throughout their childhood and beyond. In fact, if it were not for the determination of passionate educators and advocates of education, these would not have the opportunity to interact with fellow students or to receive an education commensurate with their peers. The changes that have taken place in the field of special education over the past 100 years have made a positive impact on the lives of innumerable children, thanks to the efforts of individuals who choose to live by the ideals Kappa Delta Pi represents. In recent years, the practice of inclusion has made it possible for many special education students to learn and experience schooling within the boundaries of a learning community comprised of non-classified peers and the regular district curriculum. Students are able to learn and grow in an inclusive environment where they can reach their full potential. Without a doubt, educators have worked tirelessly throughout the years to bring the greatest opportunities for success to all children.
