The Workload of Faculty Members: The Example of Educational Faculties in Turkey
Apaydin, Cigdem
College Student Journal, v46 n1 p203-213 Mar 2012
The purpose of this study was to determine the workload and opinions about the workload of faculty members who work in faculties of education in public universities in Turkey. The sample of this study consisted of 67 of 159 faculty members (professors, associate professors, and assistant professors) from faculties of education of six universities (Giresun, Trakya, Akdeniz, Gazi, Osmangazi, and Gaziosman Pasa). Data were collected using "The Academic Workload Scale of Faculty Members" which was developed by the researcher. The opinions of faculty members about their workload and academic workload regarding the spring semester of academic year 2006-2007 and the winter semester of academic year 2007-2008 were analyzed using t-tests. Faculty members tend to have more administrative services when they get older and rise by job seniority. In the activities related to research and publications differences in opinions resulted from faculty members' having an administrative role and having less seniority. In both semesters the workload of faculty members was similar in intensity. (Contains 8 tables.)
