This article presents a multimedia painting lesson based on chickens and their habitats. It describes how the author launched this lesson. Before launching this lesson, the author's third-grade students practice techniques for using tempera paint along with a variety of tools for printmaking. They have knowledge of primary and secondary colors, warm and cool colors, and of mixing color. This lesson is a great favorite of the students. They are always amazed at their ability to create such colorful paintings that truly resemble feathered chickens. Artwork from this project has been chosen to hang in the state capital in Austin, Texas, during Youth Art Month.
