Stepping Out
Vannata, Janine
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v111 n1 p34-35 Aug-Sep 2011
A strictly enforced dress code in an all-girls high school tends to create in students the desire to express their individuality. During the transition from childhood into adulthood, when adolescents struggle to establish an identity, they often define themselves through their appearance. When they are required to wear a uniform, accessories--including jewelry, backpacks, hairstyles, and, of course, shoes--become important. In this article, students invent their own one-of-a-kind shoes. (Contains 2 resources and 1 online resource.)
