Determining the Drag Coefficient of Rotational Symmetric Objects Falling through Liquids
Houari, Ahmed
European Journal of Physics, v33 n4 p947-954 Jul 2012
I will propose here a kinematic approach for measuring the drag coefficient of rotational symmetric objects falling through liquids. For this, I will show that one can obtain a measurement of the drag coefficient of a rotational symmetric object by numerically solving the equation of motion describing its fall through a known liquid contained in a vertical tube. The experimental value of the drag coefficient of an object with a particular shape is obtained by measuring the fall distance of the object at any recorded time along its entire falling path.
