An Audit of Skills and Qualifications in Preservation and Conservation Techniques: The Case of the University of Zambia Libraries

This article establishes the level of skills and experience in preservation and conservation management using a case study methodological approach conducted in the 3 university libraries at the University of Zambia. The findings revealed that 20 (57%) of the library staff had not received formal training in preservation and conservation of library materials. The study further established that some of the major obstacles to the development and administration of preservation and conservation programs in the university libraries were lack of funds and necessary skills and qualifications in preservation and conservation techniques and practices.
