Focus on the Teacher
Griffiths, Carol
ELT Journal, v66 n4 p468-476 Oct 2012
This article begins with a brief overview of some of the salient issues that have impacted on teaching practice in recent years. In order to canvass teacher concerns regarding these issues, a questionnaire was given to a class of practising teachers studying for a Masters degree in ELT at a Turkish university asking them to rate a number of key issues according to their level of concern. Quantitative results indicated reasonably high levels of concern for all the issues canvassed and showed that issues related to the classroom were the ones that caused the most concern. Qualitative insights were also gathered from comments that were added to the questionnaires. The article concludes by suggesting directions for further research and ways in which these issues may be developed in the coming years.
