Studies using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to observe the adolescent brain have shown that during adolescence multiple changes are occurring. This can provide a potential explanation for the sporadic and seemingly unpredictable behaviors that appear. It is believed that the brain of an adolescent goes through a profound neurological reorganization. By having an awareness of the changes and reorganization that is taking place in the brains of adolescents, secondary physical educators can look at behavioral management interventions as opportunities to facilitate brain development as opposed to emotional confrontation. Through the use of detached interactions and proactive management procedures, educators can develop and implement effective management plans that facilitate student learning, create positive environments for students to engage in physical activity, and demonstrate the knowledge and skills to be physically active for a lifetime.
