The Foundation and Trends of Undergraduate Education Reform in China's Research Universities: The Case of Tsinghua University

Chinese universities face enormous pressures and challenges from increased global competition, intensifying national reform efforts, quality improvement, and quantity expansion in the higher education system, which deeply affect undergraduate education reform efforts within the universities. This article uses macrocausal analysis of the complexity of higher education reform in China, combined with a case analysis of Tsinghua University's undergraduate education reform to reveal how, during social transformation and a wave of education reforms, China's research universities integrate their internal development needs with changes in the external environment to achieve deep reform in undergraduate education to enhance their advantages in talent development and overall competitiveness.
