The Need for Analyzing Neoliberalism and Biopolitics in Teacher Education
Waite, Susan Field
Teacher Education and Practice, v24 n4 p484-486 Fall 2011
Neoliberal and biopolitical ideologies have had an insidious impact on the field of teacher education, with disturbing implications for the future. Instead of "going along to get along," the field needs (1) critical analysis of the impact of neoliberalism and biopolitics on policies and practices of teacher education; (2) scholarship that assists the field in developing alternative conceptions, vocabulary, and possibilities; and (3) thoughtful examination of the functions and aims of teacher education. In this article, the author proposes some possible avenues of investigation.
