Post It!--A Cross-Disciplinary Approach to Teach Socioscientific Issues
Rundgren, Shu-Nu Chang
Teaching Science, v57 n3 p25-28 Sep 2011
Various socioscientific issues (SSIs) are emerging in today's science--and technology--dominant society, e.g. genetically modified organisms and global warming. To achieve the goal of scientific literacy, more and more science educators have devoted their attention to enhancing students' understanding of the multidimensional aspects of SSIs as well as students' abilities to make informed arguments about SSIs. The purpose of this article is to introduce a cross-disciplinary teaching approach, "post it", to engage teachers from different disciplines in promoting students' understanding of the multidimensional aspects of SSIs and informal argumentation skills. (Contains 1 table and 6 figures.)
