The three articles that make up this issue on theory in educational history are a welcome engagement with the challenges raised by poststructuralism and other theoretical developments. They contribute to what should be an ongoing conversation about the nature of the enterprise of writing the history of education. The three articles in the special issue challenge historians of education to engage theory and consider the ways in which new theoretical approaches can enrich and expand their practice. In this paper, the author shares his comments on the three articles and focuses on the debate of theoretical challenges in the history of education. (Contains 11 footnotes.)
