It Didn't Feel Like Manifest Destiny to Me: Practicing Transformative Multicultural Education--An Example from Social Studies

New teachers are often eager to practice multicultural education, but frequently say they do not know how to use multicultural education strategies. Banks (2001) identified content integration as one of five dimensions in his conceptualization of multicultural education. Content integration at the transformative level is one strategy for practicing multicultural education. With an example from social studies, the author illustrates here how teachers can practice multicultural education at the transformative level of multicultural education.
