Fostering the Development of Mathematical Thinking: Observations from a Proofs Course

The purpose of this study was to identify common problems students that experience in proof writing. Toward this end, the authors videotaped groups of students in a bridge course as they worked to construct mathematical proofs. They report on their observations and offer suggestions as to how teachers of transition courses might enhance the curriculum to address problem areas.
