Getting Outback Kids Involved in Science, the SMART Way. . .
Burns, Terry
Teaching Science, v56 n1 p43-44 Mar 2010
Australia would have to be one of the best countries in the world in which to live. The problem is that Australia is a very big place and, as a result, some rural and remote students do not enjoy the same opportunities as their suburban counterparts. Over the last two years the University of Newcastle's SMART program has been working with local organisations to address this problem. This article briefly describes how SMART has sought to stimulate interest and involvement in Science by touring exciting science shows, workshops and teacher professional development sessions to remote Northern Territory communities.
