The Tipping Point: Mentoring the General Music Student Teacher through the Job-Seeking Process with a Technology Edge

As a cooperating teacher and university supervisor (respectively), the authors have mentored many general music student teachers and helped them prepare for the job application and interview process. Today, merely having an updated resume, good recommendations, portfolio, and notes from mock interviews is average and minimum. One way to take a proactive approach is to get noticed in an impressive and professional manner while using technology as your closest ally. Creating a "video resume" of teaching excerpts that can be sent electronically along with an application puts a prospective general music teacher at an advantage and can be the "tipping point" to get one the job.
