Primary ConneXions
Press, Colin
Primary Science Review, n94 p23-24 Sep-Oct 2006
In this article, the author features "Primary ConneXions", an outreach project of Queen's University Belfast that is funded and supported by "Queen's in the Community". The format of "Primary ConneXions" is a primary school version of a real science research conference. Children do "PowerPoint" presentations, telling their audience about their investigations and discoveries. There is a poster session at lunchtime when adults have an opportunity to discuss the illustrated discoveries with the young investigators. The event is an opportunity for children to meet, to perform in front of other children and to answer other children's questions. "Primary ConneXions" has been running and growing over the last three years: from nine schools in the Greater Belfast area, to 25 schools, 40 teachers and nearly 800 children from schools across Northern Ireland.
