Buried in the Warm, Warm Ground
Ellis-Tipton, John
Primary Science Review, n94 p12-14 Sep-Oct 2006
Buntingsdale Infant School in Shropshire has installed an environmentally friendly heating system. The school's heating system is called a Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP). Buntingsdale, a three-classroom infant school in a wooden demountable building, is one of the first schools in Britain to use this system. The system is fully automatic: it is controlled by an Internet-linked energy management system, and has reduced energy consumption by 70 per cent compared to the night-storage system previously used. In this article, the author discusses how the system works. (Contains 5 figures.)
