A Response to Ambrose, VanTassel-Baska, Coleman, and Cross: A NASA Approach to Gifted Education
Gallagher, James J.
Journal for the Education of the Gifted, v34 n4 p559-568 Sum 2011
In a previous issue of this journal, four present and former editors of the most prestigious journals provide their judgment on the current field of gifted education (Ambrose, VanTassel-Baska, Coleman, & Cross, 2010). They believe that the field is insular, fractured, porous, and contested, and they provide many examples to illustrate their viewpoint. Although this author agrees substantially with their portrait, he was concerned that the authors stopped with the diagnosis--instead of presenting a proposed treatment. This paper is designed to say (a) why the field is the way it is and (b) what can be done about it. (Contains 1 table.)
