Transforming the Futures of Children
Slagle, Robert; Cantrell, Robert; Cantrell, Mary Lynn
Reclaiming Children and Youth, v19 n4 p33-35 2011
Project Re-ED began in 1961 with an eight-year grant from the National Institute of Mental Health. Trained teacher-counselors worked directly with troubled children using a competency-based ecological approach. Re-ED was found to be "a well-established, carefully tested model for intervening in the lives of children whose development has been interrupted by serious learning and behavior problems" (Lewis, 1974, p. 538). The authors are senior members of the Re-ED movement who were interviewed by guest editor James Doncaster. This article highlights their unique perspectives.
