Genesis of the Ice Trolls
Rutledge, Neil
Primary Science Review, n81 p11-13 Jan-Feb 2004
In his role as a tutor on initial teacher education courses, the author has been particularly interested in strengthening school partnership links in a manner that advances the mentoring in primary science of students working to gain their qualified teacher status. Over the past three years several projects with local primary schools have explored how to strengthen these links. The projects have also highlighted the importance of an imaginative and creative approach in enhancing children's learning. One such project led to the "Genesis of the Ice Trolls"--not an old "Doctor Who" episode but a new twist on exploring thermal insulation. The projects have shown that imagination and creativity can enhance learning in many ways but that the major area where it can have impact is in the provision of a suitable learning context.
