TEIG Locks in on Leadership

Innovation has been part of The Economical Insurance Group (TEIG) throughout its 140-year history--its first insurance policy was written on a barn in Berlin, Ontario. Today, the company continues to pursue innovation through its leaders, utilizing a variety of programs to develop the talent needed to guide the 2,500-employee organization through the next decade and beyond. As the business environment becomes more complex, it has increased and changed the demands and expectations placed on leaders. Effective leaders create the vision for developing individuals to move the strategy forward and to be successful. However, TEIG found that a significant leadership gap exists in the front-line supervisory role (team leader). The struggle lies in the ability to build leadership, coaching, and management skill among this group of leaders. These team leaders are learning how to manage directly from their manager, which perpetuates the problem. To respond to this challenge, TEIG launched in August a new leadership program called Leadership 2010: People and Performance. TEIG takes the No. 2 spot on the "Training" Top 125 with a focus on leadership development, informal learning, and training ROI (return on investment).
