Promoting Resiliency among Native American Students to Prevent Dropouts

This paper provides a brief review of the literature on resiliency and highlights aspects from a resiliency of American Indian high school students. Current efforts to promote student resiliency for successful educational outcomes are addressed in light of educational outcomes, such as dropout rates, for Native American students. Further, a particular focus on the Nevada State GEAR UP program and its efforts to reach out to Native American students are presented. Lastly, a summary of various researchers' findings with regard to facilitation of resiliency in youth is provided.
