Methodological Problems of the Present-Day Sociology of Education: A Roundtable
Russian Education and Society, v53 n5 p61-74 May 2011
An all-Russian conference on "Education and Society" was held on 22 October 2009 at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, in the course of which roundtables were conducted with leading representatives of Russian sociological science. The conference was timed to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Russian Society of Sociologists. The roundtable that dealt with methodology addressed certain timely and relevant theoretical and scientific practical issues of the development of the sociology of education, one of the most important branches of sociological science as a whole. The sociology of education in Russia needs to rethink its mission and its theories, and to become more engaged in reforms of the educational system. The discussions were conducted by the chairman of the program committee of the conference, Doctor of Sociological Sciences D.L. Konstantinovskii. The material was prepared by Doctor of Philosophical Sciences I.E. Zadorozhniuk of the Modern Academy of the Humanities and by E.I. Pronina of the Institute of Sociology, Russian Academy of Sciences.
