Transitioning into Residential Living: Independent Living at a Whole New Level
Carl, Dave
Exceptional Parent, v41 n3 p10-12 Mar 2011
When a person who has a disability takes that big step of transitioning out of the home and into some type of residential living, it may not always be easy but it is definitely possible. There are different types of residential living, but anyone who is living in an apartment--whether they are an individual with a disability or not--is in residential living. Oftentimes individuals with disabilities who have special needs will live in more specialized housing, such as group homes or community apartments, where everyone has some type of special need. In this article, the author discusses residential living for people with special needs, and what the steps are to achieving it.
