Using VoiceThread to Promote Learning Engagement and Success for All Students
Brunvand, Stein; Byrd, Sara
TEACHING Exceptional Children, v43 n4 p28-37 Mar-Apr 2011
In addition to building student knowledge and skills, educational strategies for all students should be aimed at increasing school engagement, motivation, and learner independence. Innovative technological tools, programs, and software can be used to promote student engagement, motivation, and ultimately enhance the quality of the learning experience for students with disabilities. One computer tool, called VoiceThread, can be especially helpful at increasing student engagement and motivation while activating learning. VoiceThread, an interactive, multimedia slide show tool, enables users to hold conversations around images, documents, and videos. Educators can use VoiceThread in general education, self-contained, resource rooms, and inclusive settings in large group, small group, and one-on-one learning environments. This article provides specific examples to demonstrate how this flexible tool can be used with a broad range of students across the curriculum. (Contains 3 figures.)
