Investigation of the Effectiveness of the Story-Map Method on Reading Comprehension Skills among Students with Mental Retardation

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the story-map technique on reading comprehension skills among students with mild mental retardation. The research group consisted of 14 students with mild mental retardation. The students in the research group were chosen from students who attended to an elementary school and a special education center in Ankara and who met the prerequisite skills for the research study. In order to collect data the "Read-Aloud Test" and "Teacher Interview Form" were used. In the study a pre-test post-test experimental design with a control group was used. The findings showed that the story mapping method positively affected the reading comprehension skills of the students in the experimental group. (Contains 3 tables.)
