Challenging Behavior Step-by-Step Sifting: Part 4--Critical Needs
Duffy, Roslyn Ann
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n193 p74-76 May-Jun 2010
What causes challenging behavior and what can adults do about it? That is a basic question parents and caregivers face everyday. Some needs are easy to meet, others take more work, and some require outside help. This article is the fourth and final segment of a multi-part series about dealing with Challenging Behavior, both at home and school. The author looks at "Critical Needs." Critical Needs represent the real boulders that other siftings leave behind. These are problems that are too big to handle without help. Since the author's previous siftings have been comprehensive, she is prepared to look at these persistent, troubling behaviors and get needed outside help to address them. Critical needs steps for helping families get help are presented.
