New Challenges in 21st-Century Dance Education
Kassing, Gayle
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v81 n6 p21-25, 32 Aug 2010
To become competent in today's society, individuals need multiliteracies. The 21st-century dancer needs to be an artist, choreographer, educator, and researcher who can meet challenges and make an impact within the profession, as well as across education, the arts, and society. As dance professionals assess how to utilize their resources better for sustainability, this first decade of the 21st century is a good time to think about the future of dance education. This article explains how dance history and heritage can close the gap between dance performance, theory, research, and scholarship so that each area can develop to its fullest and be a valued component within 21st-century education.
