Teens Take Stand on Bullying, but Resources Are Needed
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v76 n5 p12 Jan 2011
Nine percent of 13- to 15-year-old teens and 3% of teens 16 to 18 years old say they are "always" or "often" bullied to a point that makes them feel very sad, angry, sad, or upset. Over one-quarter of all teens say they are "sometimes" bullied to this point. This article presents some results of a "Harris Poll" of 776 teens surveyed online in April 2010 by Harris Interactive. Once something is out in cyberspace, it's very difficult for it to ever be totally erased. Schools and parents need to work to ensure teens know two things: (1) that bullies know the potential consequences of their actions; and (2) that those being bullied know they have many adults they can turn to if they are being bullied.
