"Re-Vision": Our Journey in Developing a Secondary Literacy Plan

As the national spotlight continues to focus on adolescent literacy, school districts wrestle with the needs of the students, teachers, and schools along with the demands of national and state standards and assessments. This article shares how one school district successfully navigated the needs of all stakeholders to develop a plan of action, a Secondary Literacy Plan. By assessing the needs of each school individually and then creating a common vision on what a culture of literacy would look like in action, teacher leaders designed a district-wide strategy-based plan for the implementation of a literacy focus across all content areas in grades 6-12.
