Remote Symbolic Computation of Loci

This article presents a web-based tool designed to compute certified equations and graphs of geometric loci specified using standard Dynamic Geometry Systems (DGS). Complementing the graphing abilities of the considered DGS, the equations of the loci produced by the application are remotely computed using symbolic algebraic techniques from the field of Automated Deduction. The tool, named LADucation, is an educational oriented web application that symbolically processes locus tasks on geometric diagrams created with the commercial DGS Cabri Geometry II plus, The Geometer's Sketchpad and Cinderella2.0. With a simple web interface, the interaction with the user has been reduced to just one click. In the case of a Cabri geometric construction, besides computing geometric loci, LADucation also gives answers to the five questions considered by the Cabri in-menu property checker. Three in-class scenarios are proposed in the form of detailed concrete examples. The tool is freely available at where detailed instructions can also be found. (Contains 7 figures.)
