Universities Behaving Badly?
Watson, David
Higher Education Review, v40 n3 p3-14 Sum 2008
Against the background of a distinct "ethical turn" in contemporary management discourse, the author explores how this affects and is affected by the higher education sector. Overarching aims and claims are tested against actual and perceived performance, first in terms of the United States as seen from the UK, and then by the UK sector itself. Discussion of the latter includes corporate behaviour towards students, staff, civil society, stakeholders, government, the global community and other institutions. The article concludes with some suggestions for university leadership. (Contains 1 note.)
