Student Affairs and Alumni Relations
Rissmeyer, Patricia A.
New Directions for Student Services, n130 p19-29 Sum 2010
Current realities and practices in higher education have resulted in greater collaboration among campus units. Limited resources have forced departments to share programs, activities, space, and personnel. Branding efforts have prompted consistency in communication and even in practice. Institutional strategic plans reflect increased collaboration in commonly shared goals and objectives promoting the advancement of the institution. Collaboration is valued by presidents and by boards for reasons of economy and image building. There is strength in partnerships, and a natural partner for student affairs is alumni relations. The chapter explains the unique position that student affairs administrators have in developing good relationships with alumni and the various strategies that can be used to maintain those connections.
