Flexible as a Dancer, More Resilient because of It
Mitchell, Martin; Jacob, Dana
Reclaiming Children and Youth, v19 n1 p32-34 2010
When asked once during an interview what her best quality is, Victoria Rowell simply responded with one word: Resilience. This article profiles Victoria Rowell, actress, author, dancer, and foster care advocate, who helps enrich the lives of foster youth through her charitable work and the development of the Rowell Foster Children Positive Plan. Rowell's life story is one that demonstrates that children naturally posses the ability to overcome difficulty. It is proof positive that when given a foundation of love and nurturing adults who support and provide opportunities for children to hone their passions and skills, resilience is indeed possible. Rowell serves as a national spokesperson for the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Casey Family Services. In daytime and primetime, on small and big screens, Rowell has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. While playing the role of Drucilla Winter's on "The Young and the Restless", she suggested a foster care and adoption storyline on the daytime drama series, which was praised for its portrayal of the foster care system and received many honors, including congressional recognition.
