Toast, Anyone? Project Teaches Electricity Basics and Math
Quagliana, David F.
Tech Directions, v69 n7 p20-21 Feb 2010
This article describes an electrical technology experiment that shows students how to determine the cost of using an electrical appliance. The experiment also provides good math practice and teaches basic electricity terms and concepts, such as volt, ampere, watt, kilowatt, and kilowatt-hour. This experiment could be expanded to calculate the cost of making coffee in an electric coffee pot; cooking eggs on an electric hot plate; using a computer for one day; or finding the cost to operate a refrigerator for a day.
