"Green" Hangtag Project Combines Design and Language Arts
Lazaros, Edward J.; Shackelford, Ray
Tech Directions, v69 n6 p24-26 Jan 2010
Reducing water consumption and pollution are important concerns for all people. This article describes an activity--production of water conservation hangtags for hotel rooms--that provides students with information about water conservation, in addition to excellent practice with graphic communication and language skills. The activity gives students an opportunity to work cooperatively with peers, foreign language and English teachers, and members of the community as they use the design process to develop hangtags that have an effective multilingual conservation message. Specifically, students create rough sketches, a rough design, and a final computer-generated color product that promotes the practice of hotel guests forgoing daily towel and linen replacement to conserve water.
