"ANTZ" in the Communication Classroom
Clasen, Patricia
Communication Teacher, v18 n2 p49-52 Apr 2004
Several intercultural communication textbooks describe cultural patterns using principles outlined by Edward T. Hall and Geert Hofstede. Though textbooks and instructors vary the way the principles are labeled, understanding these core cultural principles is essential in understanding an individual's cultural behaviors. Even more important than explaining how particular cultures communicate, these principles identify why particular cultures communicate. Through watching the movie "ANTZ," this activity provides instructors with a viable way to illustrate cultural differences, which then allows students to draw comparisons to their own cultural identities. A list of references and suggested readings is included.
