Mersino, Deborah
Understanding Our Gifted, v22 n3 p21-24 Spr 2010
Almost every day, another gifted education program bites the proverbial dust. Parents all across the country feel both apprehensive and anxious about the cuts. They are concerned about the educational and social emotional well-being of these students. They also wonder if it is even possible to advocate for gifted education in today's bleak economic environment. This article provides seven guidelines on how parents can act in a positive way to advocate for gifted education: (1) Creating alliances; (2) Becoming a part of the solution; (3) Fostering healthy dialogue; (4) Creating new understanding; (5) Tapping digital resources; (6) Collaborating with advocates; and (7) Rethinking funding options.
