Discipline Preferences and Styles among Latino Families: Implications for Special Educators
Jenson, Ronda J.
Multiple Voices for Ethnically Diverse Exceptional Learners, v7 n2 p60-73 Aug 2004
To support educators' knowledge and understanding of child-rearing traditions and beliefs that potentially influence the manner in which Latino parents discipline their children, the author reviewed the professional literature on demographic variables, socioeconomic status, family structure, social supports, and acculturation. Her investigation illustrates the complex interplay between culture and education. This information can lead to valuable insights for special educators as they strive for effective partnerships with Latino parents and their young children with disabilities.
