Plaster Relief Carving
Hester, Vickie
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v109 n8 p46-47 Apr 2010
Two years ago, a fortuitous event occurred at the author's school: the pre-K classrooms across the hall from her artroom received a grant that covered the installation of new bathrooms inside the room. Despite the obvious benefits, this construction project generated one of the most engaging student art projects they've ever created: plaster relief carvings made from discarded drywall. The author said that converting landfill fodder into recycled art is her passion, and her students joyfully embrace her zeal. This article discusses how these drywall scraps could become art, highlights the lasting impact of their project, and offers tips for students on how to do wall carvings.
